Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha told Parliament yesterday (20) that measures will be taken by next week to conduct a competitive examination for the absorption of graduates working in other fields including Development Officers into the teaching service.
The Education Minister replying to an oral question by MP Thushara Indunil Amarasena said the group will have the opportunity to enter the teaching profession through a competitive recruitment examination. This decision has been taken as a solution to the existing shortage of teachers.
The minister further said that the number of vacancies of deans and the academic staff in each university has also been identified and measures are being taken to fill those vacancies as well.
